College Yard and Highnam Surgeries

Background of the Surgeries

Dr Lynch, now retired, first started the Practice operating alone from The College Yard site, initially from a portacabin. He built the surgery now known as The College Yard Surgery in 1986 which was opened by The Bishop of Gloucester, Reverend John Yates. This is located in Mount Street just behind the Cathedral in Gloucester city where it services approx. just over 2,000 inner city patients. Dr Helen Miller joined the partnership in 1991 and then together they went on to build the new surgery in Highnam in 1994. In 2000 Dr Lynch retired and Dr Jane Mann joined the partnership having come from a background in family planning services. In August 2008 Dr Rahana Bibi joined the practice to help with the growing demand and has interests in family planning, skin disorders and ears, nose and throat problems.

In July 2009 Dr Miller took up the role of Chair of the Professional Executive of NHS Gloucestershire (your local Primary Care Trust), where she plays a key role in helping to shape health policies for patients across Gloucestershire. This does mean that she has had to reduce her hours in the surgery and the practice has appointed a new partner to maintain care for all our patients. Dr Simon Smith is a full time Partner
