Commission for Patient and Public Involvement
The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health (CPPIH) was set up to ensure the publics’ involvement in decisions concerning health and the health services. Although it is not a direct replacement, the CPPIH has inherited some of the roles of the disbanded Community Health Council. The Commission undertakes its duties through a set of Patient and Public Involvement Forums (one for each NHS Trust and Primary Care Trust (PCT) in England).
In Gloucestershire there are four Patient & Public Involvement in Health Forums (PPIF) covering each of the following:
- Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- 2gether NHS Foundation Trust
- Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust
- Great Western Ambulance NHS Trust
The Forums are statutory bodies and the forum members have legal powers.
Each Forum will have developed a workplan to identify areas for it to work.
These workplans are continually amended and updated to reflect the views
of the public and developments within the NHS. In addition all six Gloucestershire
Forums regularly meet and work together to share experiences and to address
common issues that may cross Forum boundaries.
